• Management Principles in Healthcare

      This pre-requisite course provides a foundational understanding of management principles and the structure of healthcare systems, with an emphasis on the Malaysian context. Students are introduced to core management functions such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, as well as the evolution of managerial thought and leadership roles in organizations. Building on this foundation, the course explores the unique nature of healthcare management—highlighting leadership, strategic planning, operational efficiency, and the complexities of delivering quality care within healthcare institutions. Finally, students gain insight into the Malaysian healthcare system, including its historical development, public and private sector roles, national policies, and current challenges. This integrated overview equips learners with essential knowledge and context to support advanced studies in healthcare management.

    • There will be 2 Sections in this course and a knowledge check at the end of every section. You will be required to achieve a minimum passing mark of 50% at the end of each section. 

      Section 1: Introduction to Management

      This topic introduces students to the essential principles and practices of management that are fundamental to any organizational setting. It covers the four core functions of management—planning, organizing, leading, and controlling—while exploring the roles and responsibilities of managers at various levels. The topic traces the evolution of management theories, from classical approaches to modern perspectives, including systems thinking and contemporary leadership models. Students will also examine the skills required for effective management, such as decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. Emphasis is placed on the importance of ethical leadership, adaptability, and innovation in managing today’s dynamic and complex organizational environments.

      Section 2: An Overview of Healthcare Management

      This topic provides an understanding of how healthcare organizations are managed, focusing on the unique aspects of healthcare delivery systems. It covers healthcare leadership, strategic planning, quality management, financial oversight, and the challenges that healthcare managers face in ensuring efficient and patient-centered care.
